Successful with the first season in 2018, The Player drama returns with its new sequel titled The Player 2: Master of Swindlers which has premiered since (3/6).
Almost six years in the making, this action-crime comedy drama continues the journey and exciting action of a gang of swindlers after escaping while heading to prison in the previous season. And of course, they will return to dismantle major criminal cases, steal dirty money, and enforce justice in a clever way.
The con artists include a wily con artist, a hacker, a fighter, and a reliable driver. So, in order to get to know them better, here are four members of the swindler gang in the drama The Player 2: Master of Swindlers.
1. Song Seung Hoon – Conman Kang Ha Ri
True Korean drama lovers are certainly familiar with the name Song Seung Heon. Yup, the actor who is touted as opening the gates for the Hallyu Wave in Asia has been in the entertainment world for 28 years.
Since his career in 1996, Song Seung Heon has never missed appearing on the screen. Like this year 2024, the actor was again lined up to be the main star in The Player 2 with a similar role.
Kang Ha Ri aka Choi Soo Hyuk (Song Seung Heon) was once a law student who turned into a cunning swindler. He is also the mastermind behind all the fraud plans in his team.
Ha Ri previously focused on the case of corrupt officials and revenge on the perpetrators of the slander and murder of her father, prosecutor Choi Hyun Ki. But after becoming a fugitive, he chose to eliminate criminals and seek justice, from going to Thailand to returning to South Korea.
2. Lee Si Eon – Hacker Im Byeong Nim
The first colleague Ha Ri recruited in his team was Im Byeong Nim. The character is played by Lee Si Eon, an actor who made his acting debut through the series Friend Our Legend (2009) and his name is known after starring in Reply 1997 (2012).
Meanwhile, The Player 2: Master of Swindlers itself became his first comeback to the screen after last playing in the drama Bad Prosecutor in 2022.
Had been part of the slander action of prosecutor Choi Hyun Ki, but his son, Ha Ri, recruited Im Byeong Nim (Lee Si Eon) to join his team.
Although physically weak and not good at fighting, Byeong Nim is a hacker who is an expert in controlling technology networks around the world. While he is known to be grumpy and have a strange humor, he is very attentive to his teammates.
3. Tae Won Seok – Fighter Do Jin Woong
In 2013, Tae Won Seok first appeared on screen with his small role in the movie Running Man. Since then, the 1986-born actor has been actively involved in many popular movies and dramas every year.
Tae Won Seok’s performance in The Player (2018) successfully captivated the audience with his stunning action.
In this second season, the actor is presented again as the toughest fighter named Do Jin Woong. With large body proportions and strong physique, Jin Wong is very good at fighting and is always a shield when his team is attacked.
However, behind his burly body and scary face, he has the same sense of humor as Byeong Nim and a gentle heart.
4. Jang Gyu Ri – Driver Cha Jae Yi
The actress, who started her career as an idol in the group fromis_9, has been pursuing acting since 2019 through the web drama Dating Survival Course. A year later, Jang Gyu Ri made her screen debut in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.
After a long wait, the former girl group member made a comeback in the drama The Player 2. Her role this time, replacing Krystal Jung’s character as the only female member of a gang of con artists.
Not much different from the previous season, Cha Jae Yi (Jang Gyu Ri) comes as a reliable driver who is very good at driving. In addition, he is also good at fighting and is ready to disguise himself to succeed his team’s mission.
