
Coffee has become a lifestyle for many people nowadays. However, it turns out that not everyone can freely drink coffee as much as they want. In fact, it is not recommended to drink coffee.
Here are the people who are not advised to consume coffee. Are you one of them?
1. People With IBS

According to Angel Planells, MS, RDN, a dietitian and nutritionist in Seattle and former president of the Washington State Academy and Greater Seattle Dietetic Association, caffeine can make people have more frequent bowel movements and lead to diarrhea. Especially, in people who have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) or a sensitive gut.
So, if you suffer from IBS, it is recommended to avoid or limit caffeinated drinks such as coffee.
2. People With Heart Disease

People with heart disease or arrhythmia are also advised to avoid coffee. This is because coffee can cause an increase in blood pressure and heart rate.
If you are a coffee lover but have heart disease, you need to consult with medical personnel about how much coffee is safe to consume per day.
3. Pregnant And Breastfeeding Mothers

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends pregnant women to limit caffeine to 200 milligrams (roughly equivalent to two cups of coffee) daily to minimize the risk of miscarriage, preterm labor, and low birth weight.
It’s also a good idea for women who are pregnant and breastfeeding to discuss their caffeine intake with their doctor.
4. People With Sleep Disorders

Of course, people who have trouble sleeping are not advised to drink coffee to induce sleep. The habit of drinking coffee can perpetuate your poor sleep cycle and make you feel tired quickly.
A study from the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that caffeine consumed six hours before bed could potentially disrupt sleep patterns. This finding was based on a level of 400 milligrams of caffeine, which is equivalent to about four cups of coffee.
5. People With Anxiety Disorders

Caffeine is a stimulant that can worsen anxiety in some individuals. If you frequently experience anxiety or panic attacks, you should avoid or reduce your intake of coffee and other caffeinated beverages.
This statement is supported by research from General Hospital Psychiatry which found that higher levels of caffeine (around 5 cups of coffee per day) can potentially lead to panic attacks in people who are already experiencing anxiety.
6. Children Under 12 Years Old

The caffeine in coffee can cause more serious side effects in children. For example, increased heart rate, increased anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and upset stomach.
Coffee can also delay hunger so toddlers or children under 12 years old will not feel hungry at mealtimes. The acid content of coffee can also damage children’s tooth enamel and increase the risk of cavities in children.
7. People With GERD

Caffeine can cause stomach contents to enter the esophagus and cause uncomfortable GERD symptoms. If you suffer from GERD, switch from coffee to other beverages that do not contain caffeine and the heavy effects of coffee on your physique.
